What exactly is breathwork?

Conscious connected breathwork is a powerful technique that uses intentional breathing patterns for physical, mental, and emotional healing.

Breathwork is also a powerful tool for trauma release, allowing somatic processing and healing.

What can I expect in a breathwork session?

Conscious connected breathwork involves integrating deep, rhythmic breathing patterns to promote relaxation, emotional release, and enhanced self-awareness. Here's what you can typically expect during a session:

Setting the Intention: You'll be guided to focus on what you hope to achieve or release during your breathwork journey.

Guided Breathing: Conscious connected breathwork involves deep breathing in a continuous loop without pauses, ensuring a flowing rhythm. You don't need to have any prior experience as you'll be guided through the journey.

Physical and Emotional Responses: As you breathe, you might experience various physical sensations such as tingling, warmth, or a feeling of energy moving through your body. Emotionally, you could feel a spectrum of emotions ranging from peace and joy to the release of pent-up feelings of sadness and anger. The rhythmic breathing pattern can open up the flow of previously stagnant energy and allow suppressed emotions come to the surface. This is both normal and healthy. Often people have increased vitality as energy previously used to suppress emotions can be redirected towards creativity and inspiration.

Music and Sound Healing: Intentionally created playlists supports you to dive deeper into your consciousness.

A Safe and Supportive Environment: A safe space where you feel comfortable to release and explore whatever arises, welcoming all emotions and knowing you are supported throughout the process.

Integration: Towards the end of the session there's an integration phase, this is a key part to allow your body to receive and process the journey. There is time for reflection to capture your insights in whichever way feels good to you e.g. journaling, drawing, colouring etc.

Each person's breathwork experience is unique with many influencing factors. While some sessions may feel deeply transformative, others might simply offer a period of rest and introspection. Embrace whatever unfolds with openness and curiosity.

How do I prepare for a session?

Preparing for a conscious connected breathwork session can enhance your overall experience and help you gain the most benefits from the practice. Here’s a recommended guide to get you ready:

Choose a Comfortable Space: Find a quiet and comfortable place where you won’t be disturbed. This might be a cozy room in your home or a peaceful spot in nature.

Wear Comfortable Clothing: Dress in loose, comfortable clothing that allows you to breathe deeply and move freely.

Hydrate and Nourish Yourself: Stay hydrated but avoid heavy meals at least 2 hours before. There will be an opportunity for water in/water out before the breathwork journey begins.

Gather Necessary Supplies: Consider having items like a yoga mat or blanket to lie on, a cushion for added comfort, and a journal to note any insights after the session.

Minimize Distractions: Silence your phone and inform those around you that you need uninterrupted time for your practice.

Come with an open mind: Breathwork can bring up unexpected emotions or sensations, know that breathwork offers you want you need in that moment and you will be supported on the journey.

By following these preparation tips, you’ll create an optimal environment to fully dive into your breathwork session. Remember, each session is unique, and it’s important to approach it with a sense of curiosity and self-compassion.

Is prior experience necessary?

No prior experience is necessary to participate in a conscious connected breathwork session. The most important requirement is an open mindset and a willingness to explore your inner world through breath.

Contraindications

Breathwork can result in intense physical and emotional release. Therefore, it is not advised for people with a history of cardiovascular disease, including angina or heart attack, high blood pressure, use of a pacemaker, glaucoma, retinal detachment, osteoporosis, and significant recent physical injuries or surgery.

Breathwork is not advised for people with mental illness or seizure disorders or for people using major medications. It is also unsuitable for anyone with a personal or family history of aneurysms.

Pregnant women are advised against practicing Breathwork without first consulting and getting approval from their primary care physician.

People with asthma should bring their inhalers and consult with their primary care physician and the Breathwork class facilitator.

This work is deeply experiential. It may involve intense and energetic emotional release. Breathwork is not advised for people who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

How long does a coaching journey last?

Our first 6 to 10 weeks can serve as an initial deep dive into your goals, with checkpoints to assess progress and make necessary adjustments.
